Biostatistics, data coordination,
and data management are indispensable components
of biomedical and clinical research. These
core activities assure scientific merit
and quality of research projects and are
critically important to the overall productivity
of any research program. |
While MSM has many ongoing
research projects, programs, centers
and institutes, this academic institution
lacks an integrated resource of biostatistical
and data management expertise and technical
staff support for its relatively young
but blossoming research enterprise. Technical
support staff are widely dispersed throughout
its academic departments and research
centers of this small campus of approximately
150 biomedical and clinical faculty.
As a result, research programs are often
poorly supported and have limited capacities
and productivity as well as potential
for long-term sustainability.
The aim of this core is to provide technical
support, consultation with data collecting
methods, and being the support arm in
data entry, processing, and management
to the various research programs. The
core will also provide assistance in
database administration support by developing
and maintaining the databases. The Biostatistics
and Data Management Core will offer the
faculty support in analyzing data and
offering consultation in study design,
sampling, sample size planning, and statistical
analyses methodologies. |
