Welcome to
Morehouse School of Medicine's family. Whether you
join us as a candidate for the M.D., Ph.D., or M.P.H.
degree, we shall expect you to share our commitment
to improving the health of underserved people in
both urban and rural
communities.
Whether teaching, doing research, or providing services
to the community, our faculty is united in their
effort to train excellent clinicians, scientists,
and community health workers. During the past few
years, we have been among the nation's leaders of
M.D. graduates who have selected primary care residencies.
In addition, more than 70% of our alumni practice
in underserved communities. We are fulfilling our
mission.
We believe that a full education in medicine should
include the opportunity to have an appreciation
for biomedical research. Biomedical research has
and will continue to revolutionize medicine and
the delivery of medical care in the 21st century.
Hence, we encourage students to do research electives
in basic (bench) research or in clinical research.
For students enrolling in the Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D.
program, you will have the opportunity to do research
with able scientists in our neuroscience, cardiovascular,
AIDS/HIV, and space medicine centers, as well as
in other units. Our institution has been fortunate
in attracting an increasing number of well-known
scientists who can provide a valuable learning experience
whether you are doing a research elective, or wish
to train as a biomedical research scientist. Our
goal is to train first-rate biomedical scientists
who will go on to productive careers in academia,
private industry, or government agencies.
We are proud of our Master of Public Health program.
It was recently accredited by the Council on Education
for Public Health (CEPH). From our inception, Morehouse School of
Medicine has been committed to the promotion of
health and prevention of disease in underserved
communities. We have developed several innovative,
community-based programs, some of which are recognized
in the region and in the nation.
You are joining a special institution where improving
the health of the underserved is central to our
teaching, research, and community service programs.
