Through a Cooperative Agreement with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), The Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT) and the Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS), The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences/Cork Institute at Morehouse School of Medicine has established the Historically Black Colleges and Universities National Resource Center for Substance Abuse and Mental Health Infrastructure Development (HBCU-NRC).

Technical Assistance

The HBCU-NRC can provide technical assistance for: 1) Substance Abuse and Mental Health curriculum development and curriculum infusion; 2) Substance Abuse and Mental Health program development; and 3) suicide prevention initiatives. REGIONAL WORKSHOP
SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND MENTAL HEALTH CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT: ENHANCING CAPACITY-BUILDING AND INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT

The purpose of the HBCU Regional Workshops is to facilitate the building of relationships between behavioral sciences, behavioral health, substance abuse, and mental health academics and members of the information technology departments on HBCU campuses in order to provide an atmosphere for institutional representatives to establish and achieve substance abuse and mental health curricula writing goals.

Since 2007, the HBCU-NRC has used the software's virtual classrooms to facilitate experts in their fields providing timely information on substance abuse and mental health topics to HBCU faculty and staff, as well as organization leaders.

The purpose of the teleconference is to assess the impact of the HBCU-NRC Mini-Grant program, funded projects and their sustainability.

"Curriculum Development Next Steps" Follow-up Teleconference
This teleconference afforded all scholars opportunities to discuss their mental health and substance abuse curriculum development initiatives and progress around planning courses, major or minor in these academic fields.
