R25 Research Training Grant

Dr. Bradford has received an award from the National Institute of Mental Health for a grant to provide training and practical experience in conducting mental health research. This five-year R25 grant (MH071735), Fostering Mental Health Research in Psychiatry Residents, started in the Fall of 2006 and supports a six-month mandatory research rotation for all second-year psychiatry residents which includes an eight-week didactic course, Essentials in Clinical Research, and six months (one-half day per week) participation in Applications of Clinical Research, which includes workshops, seminars, individual scholarly projects and supervised research experience. In collaboration with the Department of Psychiatry at Emory University School of Medicine (SOM), three fourth year research electives are also supported. The fourth year residents are matched with ongoing research projects and mentors at either Morehouse SOM or Emory SOM. The grant provides protected time, research supplies and travel awards for the fourth year electives. If all research electives are not filled by Psychiatry Residents, these positions can be filled by Morehouse SOM residents or Psychiatry Residents from other HBCU Medical Schools. Please contact Dr. Bradford (email: Dbradford@msm.edu) for further information.
