About MPH

Mission

The mission of the MPH Program is to prepare individuals to organize and implement programs to improve the health, quality of life and well-being of communities and people, through instruction, research, and service in public health. The Program has a particular emphasis on people of color, minorities, and other underserved populations.

Goals

Goal I: Provide students the education, skills and abilities to address the public health needs of communities, regions, and nations with a particular focus on underserved populations.

Goal II: Prepare graduates for leadership in the Public Health field.

Goal III: Increase the representation of African Americans and other underrepresented populations in the Public Health professions.

Goal IV: Life long learning

Goal V: Discover, develop, and advance knowledge through basic and applied research in problems that disproportionately affect underserved populations.

Goal VI: Collaborate with communities in all projects and activities to improve their health and well-being.

Goal VII: Improve and impact policies and practices in order to promote health and decrease morbidity and mortality among minority and other underserved populations.

Values Statement

The MPH program is working to assure conditions which support the highest attainable standards of health, which according to the Constitution of the World Health Organization, is one of the fundamental rights of every human being. We are committed to developing a cadre of public health leaders who value learning and the application of knowledge to life long service.
