Welcome

Welcome to the Master of Public Health Program (MPH), which is located within the Department of Community Health & Preventive Medicine (CHPM) at Morehouse School of Medicine. Since its inception in 1995, the MPH Program has witnessed the expansion of the field of public health, which has become increasingly more dynamic, complex, and consequently more essential.

There are many issues affecting the health of populations in the US and globally. These include but are not limited to HIV/AIDS, malnutrition, environment, reproductive health, and violence that cannot be addressed exclusively by medical or health services interventions but must be addressed by analyses which provide solutions to the increasing social and economic inequalities. .

The MSM/MPH Program through its mission, goals and values statement is committed to addressing the problems and finding solutions to the public health needs of underserved and minority communities of people of color in the areas of teaching, research, and service.

Our Program prepares students to take on these public health challenges in two ways: Academic preparation through a comprehensive curriculum (46 credit hours) built on the principles of human rights and social justice; and an intensive (3 months/480 hours) practicum of field experience, public health leadership seminars and volunteer/community service.

Graduates of the MSM/MPH Program who are trained to be future public health leaders have distinguished themselves in the public health workforce and at institutions of higher education. Many are employed with federal, state and local agencies, and non-governmental and community-based organizations in the areas of international health, health administration and policy and the social and behavioral sciences in the US and internationally.

Information about our faculty, committees, student association, research and work-study opportunities are available on this website.

We look forward to receiving your application and joining us as a member of the MSM/MPH family.

Sincerely,

Patricia Rodney, PhD, MPH
Director, MPH Program & Associate Professor, CHPM
