Emma Lou Clark was born in Cleveland, Ohio where she spent her early life. In 1965 she came to Atlanta, Georgia where she attended Central Middle School and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. Ms. Clark graduated from Clark College, receiving a BA in sociology.
Ms. Clark started her professional work with the Metropolitan Atlanta Girls Clubs, moving from Resident Camp Director to Teen Club Coordinator for the Perry Homes and Herndon Homes public housing projects. Working with the Girls Clubs fueled Ms. Clark's passion for working with youth and teens. She was later made the Director of the Harris Homes Girls Club. Ms. Clark then received a position as the Math and Science Coordinator with the Public Broadcasting Television Network's program, 3-2-1 Contact. She was responsible for getting girls interested and excited about math and science through the television series.
In 1987 Ms. Clark moved to the City of Atlanta Bureau of Recreation Grove Park Center, still working with youth and teens. She moved up in the organization and presently is the Community Facility Supervisor for the Arthur Langford and Thomasville Recreation centers. The Thomasville Recreation Center is the site of the Morehouse School of Medicine Prevention Research Center's (PRC) Computer Technology Center. This program provides health information and serves as a technology vehicle for teens, as well as children and adults, and was funded through a special grant to the PRC secured by another Board member, Dr. Marion Howard.
