Graduate Course for MPH, Theological, Social Work Students and Preventive Medicine Residents
Community Health Promotion: This course is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills that are required to assess and organize communities for health promotion and prevention interventions. This course will provide integrated material on the three areas of program development-planning, implementing, and evaluating. It is also designed to achieve several public health core competencies.
Undergraduate Course for Medical Students
Community Health: This course is designed to provide students the opportunity to analyze the health and health problems of the community, including the delivery of community health preventive services. It includes the study of primary health care, the health care delivery system, the epidemiology and prevention of disease and approaches to community health promotion.
Honors Track
A four year “track” starting with the completion of the Community Health course. It requires an overall grade of “A” for both semesters of the community health course. The second year, students identify a service area of interest and select a community service project. They engage in community service activities at the identified site between October and May. The third year is continuance of the service and development a research prospectus and a. The fourth year includes a Preventive Medicine Clerkship. Completion of the track qualifies the student to graduate with honors.

Collaboration between area Colleges and Universities
Faculty from within the MSM area collaborate in an effort to improve service learning at each University or College. The goals of the collaboration are to obtain different ideas on developing service learning at each higher institution, and getting students involved. |
