Overall Residency Program Goals
The MSM Surgery Residency Program develops surgeons who are proficient in the details
of medical management as well as sensitive and responsive to the special circumstances
that often prevail in medically underserved and disadvantaged communities.
The program’s primary goals are to:
- Prepare residents who possess the knowledge and skills to competently manage a comprehensive range of health conditions
- Provide educational experiences that prepare residents to be competent general surgeons who are able to provide comprehensive and coordinated care to a broad range of surgery patients
- Familiarize residents with the fields of subspecialty surgery to enable them to participate as team members in the care of patients with chronic and complex disorders
- Function with other members of the healthcare team in both inpatient and ambulatory settings to be competent leaders in the organization and management of patient care
