Morehouse School of Medicine Raised Over $450,000
In One Evening
By Ayah Rashid, April 22, 2015-How many academic institutions can say that they can raise $458,765 in one night? The Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) can! Thursday, April 18th was a night to remember. The 8th Annual Hugh Gloster Society Donor Celebration, an elegant event and fundraiser, was held to honor the organizations and individuals that support our institution. Over 300 guests attended that evening, and acclaimed actor, film director and political activist Danny Glover was the celebrity host.
“The Hugh Gloster Society Donor Celebration is the ideal event to launch the school’s 40th anniversary,” said MSM President and Dean Valerie Montgomery Rice. “The event recognizes the tremendous support Morehouse School of Medicine has received from countless individuals, and organizations in the city, state, and nation. We want to thank all of our alumni and friends from their tremendous support through the years and share with them our new vision for leading the creation and advancement of health equity.”
The event not only served as the largest grossing fundraiser so far this year, but also a perfect start to MSM’s 40th Year Celebration, which will continue through the end of the academic calendar. The celebration featured a unique form of getting to know MSM - called the MSM Experience - an exclusive, interactive, behind-the-scenes showcase. The event highlighted the extraordinary philanthropy of our giving supporters, as the annual gifts support MSM classrooms, libraries and student scholarships.
This year MSM awarded distinguished founder, former MSM president and dean, and President Emeritus Dr. Louis W. Sullivan, with the Louis C. Brown Vanguard Award. He was honored for his exceptional service and leadership. This award, established in 2009, recognizes individuals whose pioneering spirit and demonstrated leadership has impacted issues of health disparities in Georgia and the nation.
It was a special night of student, faculty and staff, and donors celebrating the institution’s growth and excellence it the Atlanta community. Happy 40th Morehouse School of Medicine!
